Subject: Better quality
Subject: Better quality
I love this movie it brings back memories from Sci Fi Theater when I was a kid. I just watched this on the Roku channel and the quality was awful. I just skipped around on this one and it seems to be better quality wise than the one that is being broadcast.

The role of the blind girl that "Susan" ) played by Janina Faye in this film meets is played by Carole Ann Ford who also played a character called :"Susan" . Susan Foreman whose grandfather was a Timelord from Gallifrey known as "The Doctor" when the series began way back in 1963.

Thank you, Shadows_Girl, for confirming what I had only dimly suspected whilst watching the film: that the character of Bettina is played by none other than Carole Ann Ford of Doctor Who fame.
Speaking of time travel, I believe I first saw TDofT sometime in the 1990s, but could not remember a thing about it when I viewed it just now. In any event, I still found it to be a gripping film in 2021, and was grateful to note that, as ever, films from the pre-CGI era are at least as good as (if not better than) the best that the 21st century has to offer.
A hearty "thank you" to the uploader for taking the time and trouble to make this available.

Though the film follows the book with reasonable accuracy what is "Hidden" is that the Triffids Did Not Come With The Meteor Storm...
In fact they were a "Food Source" developed in Soviet Countries which was "Stolen" by means of a Light Aircraft, which crashed in a jungle and, from there self-propagated to cover the world - Particularly the UK where the film is mainly based.
And that Meteor Storm? That was a ruse by JW to remove a significant number of the population in order that the "Main Cast" could reach safety and of course, rescue a number of blinded people on the way.

The mention of Janette Scott fighting a "Triffid that spits poison and kills" in the song "Science Fiction Double Feature" from THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW refers to this movie.
John Wyndham was also the author of THE MIDWICH CUCKOOS (aka VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED) another book that has been remade more than once as a movie and as a radio series.
Perhaps his best novel (IMHO) is THE KRAKEN WAKES (known in the USA as OUT OF THE DEEPS)and that one has never been filmed. thank God! I say "Thank God" because even the best CGI going will be someone else's vision not mine or yours or anyone else's who just reads the book.
And that would be a shame.

This is actually a good movie, unlike many a schlocky sci-fi that was made around the same time. It has a good storyline, suspense, well-drawn characters and good production values for the time.
The Triffids themselves are a bit cheesy, but we can't really blame them for not having CGI.
If you like old sci-fi's you'll probably like this one.
